It’s been such a fun, creative and active time in my studio! SO many great clergy stole sales in addition to this amazing project of the Stations.
I am slowly sewing my way through Station #6. Veronica is looking good, though concerned as she has the impulse to help Jesus and wipe his face (I am curious to know more about this legend of the Shroud of Turin!).
Yet, I am about to dive into Station #7! I wasn’t sure I was ready yet, partially because I’m not done #6 and I don’t want to confuse all the piles of fabric in my small studio. But the fabric stage of #6 is complete, and when I glanced ahead to #7 yesterday, I got quite excited to move ahead. So here I go! First I will spend most of an hour finalizing the to-scale paper pattern already traced from the projected line drawing by Beau, my studio assistant. Then I will begin to trace the Wonder-Under transfer pieces before Beau cuts them out. I’m excited because this station will be entirely different from all my other work. It is DARK! Dark in subject as Jesus is overcome by the overwhelm of his mind, which causes him to fall, and dark in colour - the strong black, red and purple is purposefully harsh and disconcordant.
In my usual work creating liturgical art for the seasons of the church, rarely does a black or dark colour make its way in as I focus on light and Spirit and inspiring beauty. However, I am inherently an intense person. I identify with a mind that overwhelms and causes a fall from time to time. AND this is life. It can also co-exist with light and Spirit. In fact, it is often the way to those things. Jesus taught us that. I have learned so much as I get older about forgiving myself and forgiving others. Thank God. This is what I trust for today.
